Best AI skills to learn in 2026
Which AI skill is worth learning first? We looked at every main task, across all 601 jobs, that already shows up in real AI use, and grouped them by what the task asks you to do. The skills below are ranked by how many jobs they appear in.
How we rank: 3222 main tasks show recorded AI use (Anthropic Economic Index, matched to O*NET). We sort each one into a skill by the words it starts with (for example “write”, “draft” or “prepare” → writing and preparing documents; “analyze”, “review” or “identify” → research and analysis). 85% of those tasks fit one of these skills; the rest are left out. Skills are counted once per job. How it works.
